I’ve just finished work…The Great Inconvenience rolls merrily through it’s third week and already it feels like I’ve been doing this an eternity.
Since taking on this case my working day has had about three hours added to it and the evidence we’re hearing this week is pretty harrowing. I’m used to covering murders but the witness we were hearing from today makes you feel dirty just by sitting in the same room as him.
If he’s done even half the things he says he’s done then he’s one very sick individual indeed.
Because I’m working out in the back of beyond and the court keeps sitting late I just had to hop in a cab and finish my copy at home because the courthouse was emptying and there are no press facilities. That means I’m only finished now and I feel exhausted.
This is when the phone starts hopping with subs wanting to check details. I’m meeting friends tonight but chances are I’ll be getting calls for half the evening. Some of the things I’ve heard today will stay with me for a long time and I can’t wait to get done with this case.
The problem with working such long intense days is that I have zero head room left to work on the book. I haven’t looked at it since this trial started and it’s probably got another two weeks to run (unless a miracle happens). It doesn’t help when you’re already stressed out. I usually write to relax but it’s just impossible at the moment.
The problem is that just adds to the stress. I can’t relax at all at the moment. I’m just hoping that some good company and a bit of a laugh will work…
